Dr. Francis Q. Eberle, Executive Director, National Science Teachers Association (NSTA)
Dr. Francis Q. Eberle is the executive director of the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA), the largest organization in the world promoting excellence and innovation in science teaching and learning for all. NSTA's current membership of more than 58,000 includes science teachers, science supervisors, administrators, scientists, business and industry representatives, and others involved in science education. As a leader in science education, Dr. Eberle oversees NSTA efforts to engage teachers of science nationwide and improve student learning in the sciences by providing a vast number of products, services, and programs such as quality professional development conferences; award-winning journals and NSTA Press publications; two e-newsletters that reach more than 400,000 educators nationwide; the NSTA New Science Teacher Academy that provides professional development and mentoring support for early-career teachers; and the NSTA Learning Center, an internet portal created to provide science teachers with in-depth, science-content help, short courses, and quality face-to-face web seminars and meetings. Before joining the association's staff in September 2008, Dr. Eberle was executive director of the Maine Mathematics and Science Alliance (MMSA), an adjunct faculty member of the University of Southern Maine, founder and executive director of the STAR Foundation, and a classroom teacher. He is a renowned researcher in the science education community and has published extensively for the science and mathematics communities. Eberle holds a doctorate in educational studies from Lesley University, a master's degree in educational psychology from the University of Connecticut, and a bachelor's degree in science education from Boston University. He lives in McLean, Virginia, with his wife Diane and daughter Charlotte. |
