Yvonne Ng, Engineering Education Specialist, National Center for STEM Elementary Education
Yvonne Ng has combined her passion for engineering, an entrepreneurial spirit and the innovative heart of an inventor to share a love for engineering with students of all ages. She is the Engineering Education Specialist for the National Center for STEM Elementary Education, providing custom training to in-service teachers in addition to co-teaching in the University's undergraduate STEM minor and graduate STEM certificate programs. A 1991 graduate of Princeton, Ng was a McDonnell-Douglas Scholar, served an internship at the NASA-Glenn Research Center and was elected to science and engineering honor societies. She graduated with High Honors and a BSE in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and was recognized for her outreach and community service. Earning her M.S.M.E. and a Computer Science Minor from the University of Minnesota, she was a National Science Foundation Fellow and served an internship in the Honeywell Military Avionics Division. After several years in private industry, Ng joined St. Catherine University-home to the largest undergraduate college for women in 2000--where she teaches, recruits, and advises young women in STEM disciplines. She was instrumental in securing two National Science Foundation scholarship grants totaling over $1 million. She continues her outreach to children by serving on the board of the hands-on engineering museum, The Works, and through the research project, "Robot Building at St. Kate's: Transforming Computer and Engineering Education for Women and Girls," a collaboration with the Girl Scouts of the Minnesota and Wisconsin River Valleys that was the foundation for the curriculum, "ME: Robots." She launched her book, Engineering for the Uninitiated: Discover If Engineering Is Right for Your Child, in July 2011 for parents and teachers of young children. Her first book, She's an Engineer? Princeton Alumnae Reflect, was published in 1993. |
