Dilawar Syed, CEO, Yonja Media Group; Commissioner, President Obama's Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders
Dilawar is CEO of Yonja Media Group, a leading emerging markets social media company based in Silicon Valley and Istanbul. Yonja Media operates social networking, local commerce and recruiting web properties. Prior to joining Yonja Media, Dilawar was head of platform strategy at Yahoo!. Earlier, Dilawar held key roles in enterprise software -- at SAP and Siebel Systems. Dilawar started his career as a management consultant at Deloitte Consulting and Ernst & Young. In 2010, President Obama appointed Dilawar to President’s Advisory Commission on Asian Americans. As Commissioner, Dilawar drives White House’s engagement with the Asian American business community. In 2008, DNC Chairman appointed Dilawar to DNC’s South Asian Leadership Council. Dilawar is board member of entrepreneurship non-profit OPEN; advises Atlantic Council’s cross-border entrepreneurship initiative in South Asia, and participated in U.S. State Dept. entrepreneurship delegation to Turkey in 2012. Dilawar holds an M.B.A from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin. |
